South West Victoria - Invest Victoria

South West Victoria

The diverse industries of South West Victoria enjoy a well-established business infrastructure and connectivity with local and international markets. The region has two deep-sea ports in Geelong and Portland, a quality road network transport and regular rail freight services.

Geelong, Victoria’s largest city after Melbourne, is central to Victoria's substantial car research and manufacturing industries and the wool trade. It is also the gateway to Victoria's surf coast and the magnificent Great Ocean Road.

Portland is home to Australia's third largest aluminium smelter and significant new developments harnessing wind energy. The area's fertile soil provides the basis for thriving industries in horticulture, viticulture, meat and dairy production, and wool production. Other industries in the region include fishing, forestry, and quarrying.

The coastal towns of Anglesea, Apollo Bay, Lorne, Ocean Grove, Queenscliff and Torquay are popular tourist destinations. Tourist highlights include rainforests in the Otways and scenic rocky outcrops of the Grampians National Park.
