$15m state-of-the-art Victorian manufacturing plant

Tontine’s new $15 million state-of-the art manufacturing plant and showroom at Campbellfield was officially opened today by the Minister for Industry and Trade, Theo Theophanous.

Mr Theophanous said that the company’s decision to expand locally was a strong vote of confidence in the industry opportunities offered in Victoria and in Melbourne’s north-west region.
|
“Tontine makes an enormous contribution to local manufacturing, producing approximately 3.6 million high quality pillows per year at a rate of one every five seconds and employs around 120 people in Victoria,” he said.
|
“This new 16,500 square metre facility will enable Tontine to keep building on its achievements.
|
“It will facilitate world best practice production, storage and warehousing activities and is strategically located just off the Hume Highway with easy access to the Western Ring Road, City Link and Melbourne Airport.”
|
The business, which was formerly located in Brunswick, traces its origins back to 1870 and produces half of all pillows sold in Australia.
|
The Tontine name itself has been a leader in the bedding accessory market for the past half century and now forms part of Pacific Brands - a huge stable of household names that make up one of Australia’s largest consumer goods companies.
|
Mr Theophanous said that Tontine had joined an array of other established and successful organisations at the National Business Park, helping to ensure it developed as a showcase for local industrial capabilities.
|

“We are committed to creating the conditions and providing the support that will enable Victorian industry to continue growing and competing successfully against the world’s best.”
