Melbourne on top in Asia rankings

Melbourne comes out on top for quality of life and fourth overall in the 2007-08 Asian Cities of the Future rankings.

The rankings, published by fDi magazine every two years, are based on economic potential, cost effectiveness, human resources, quality of life, infrastructure, business friendliness and FDI promotion strategy.

By category Melbourne ranked in the top 10 for the biggest growth in average earnings and the biggest fall in unemployment in the last two years.

It was also found that Melbourne is the tenth youngest city in Asia, with five per cent of the population under 25.

Melbourne was ranked second in the best human resources in Asia and has the sixth highest level of mobile phone ownership.
