In a boost to Victoria’s services sector, one of Australia’s leading insurance firms has invested $9 million in a new customer contact and training centre 50 kilometres north of Melbourne.
AAMI’s new state-of-the-art centre in Gisborne will create up to 200 new jobs by 2011 and service more than 6000 calls a day when it reaches full capacity.
AAMI Victoria Executive Manager Sue Jellie said the opening of the AAMI customer contact centre was the single biggest economic and employment injection into the Gisborne area since the 1970s.
Officially opened the centre, Victorian Regional and Rural Development Minister, Jacinta Allan, said it proved that the business and investment climate across provincial Victoria is strong.
“Provincial Victoria presents an excellent opportunity for companies looking to establish or expand service centre operations in Victoria.
“Generally, there are lower real estate costs, lower turnover, less competition for staff, and a lower concentration of competing centres compared to Melbourne.
“Victoria’s other advantages include our multi-lingual capacity, with about 150 languages spoken throughout the state, and our geographical position which perfectly positions us to service the Asia Pacific in real time and bridge US and European time zones to enable 24-hour operations.
“In the past two years Salesforce (Geelong) and Excelior (Shepparton) have expanded contact centre operations into provincial Victoria, reflecting a growing global trend among local and international companies establishing regional operations,” she said.
