An innovative Victorian company, Australian Defence Apparel (ADA), has won an $80 million contract to supply the Australian Defence Force with new-generation modular body armour.
ADA beat a strong line-up of 16 international competitors from the US, Europe, Canada and Israel for the five-year deal, which will see ADA employ a further 80 staff at their Bendigo manufacturing facility in central Victoria.
The new modular system features advanced ballistic and fragmentation protection for troops and can be modified for specific missions in a variety of climatic conditions, making it ideal for Australian defence operations.
Australian Secretary for Defence Procurement, Greg Combet, said the win by ADA was reflective of the leading-edge technology available through Australia’s internationally competitive protective equipment industry sector.
